  • The Marceline Lady Tigers hosted Slater last night at Lions Field for their home opener, and a Lewis and Clark contest. The Lady Tigers handled things to please their home crowd, and played nearly all of their players through the course of the game.

  •  The Marceline Lady Tigers hosted Slater last night at Lions Field for their home opener, and a Lewis and Clark contest. The Lady Tigers handled things to please their home crowd, and played nearly all of their players through the course of the game.  
    Morgan McCormick struck to two in the top of the first, and Slater made a little noise, but did not score. Elaine Ewigman led off for Marceline, and singled. See would steal both second and third. With one out, Ewigman was driven home on an out by Sydnee Brooks. McCormick singled, and stole second. She moved to third on a throwing error. She would come home off of a double by Katie Cupp. Cupp took third on a passed ball, and would score on a bunt single by Claire Dorrell. After one inning, Marceline led 3-0.  
    McCormick struck out two in the top of the second, and Slater would again go down quietly. Molly Shoop reached on an error, and would advance to third on a stolen base and an error. She came home on a groundout by Abbie Peiffer. After two innings, the Lady Tigers led 4-0.  
    A trifecta of groundouts would set Slater down in order in the top of the third. With end out in the home half of the frame,   McCormick slugged a ground rule double. She took third on a passed ball, and was joined on base by Cupp after a walk. Cupp was replaced on base by Kelsey Gardner, who stole second. A hit from Dorrell brought home McCormick and advanced Gardner to third. She stole second, and both she and Gardner would come home on a single from Ashley Wheeler. Wheeler was replaced on base by Taylor Snyder, who stole second. Shoop brought her home on a hard double to the outfield, and Shoop grabbed third on the throw. Abbie Peiffer doubled to bring Shoop home. She came home off of a single by Ewigman. Ewigman stole second, and moved to third on a groundout by Kate Peiffer. She would score on a single from Brooks. The bases would be cleared on the next at-bat, as McCormick slugged a two-run home run to left-center field. After three innings, Marceline led 13-0.  
    The Lady Tigers subbed many players out for the remainder of the contest, starting in the top of the fourth. Abbie Peiffer moved to the mound, and Slater made little noise to go down. Marceline also went down in order to leave them with a 13-0 lead after four innings.  
    Slater would put one run across the plate in the top of the fifth, but the game still ended with a strikeout from Peiffer. Marceline won this game by a final score of 13-1.
