  • The Marceline Tigers rebounded from a week three Bell Game loss tonight with a 42-14 win over the Putnam County Midgets in non-conference action.  Despite early struggles, the Black Rage Football team came away with a good win to please the home crowd.
A 67-yard halfback pass from Dakota Lewis to Dan Corbin would start the scoring in this game, and put Marceline up 7-0 very early on.  Putnam would respond with a long drive, scoring on a 51-yard touchdown run.  They would miss the point-after, leaving the Tigers with a 7-6 lead.
A short field some time later would start the Tigers in Midgets territory.  Two long runs by Blake Belzer would lead to Belzer finishing off his own score from four yards out.  Isaac Smith added the point-after.  Putnam responded with an 83-yard touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff.  A pass on the conversion tied the game at 14-14 after one quarter.
Marceline would start the second quarter off by finishing the drive that ended the opening frame.  A 10-yard rushing score from Belzer would give Marceline a 21-14 lead early in the quarter.
After a three-and-out, Blake Linebaugh would find Lewis for an 18-yard touchdown pass and another MHS score.  At the half, Marceline led 27-14.
On the Tigers opening drive of the second half, Marceline would score to extend their lead.  The touchdown came on a one-yard scamper by Belzer, and Linebaugh and Lewis would connect on the conversion pass.  Early in the third, Marceline led 35-14.
The game's final score came at the end of the third quarter, as Duane Avila would find the end zone from 15 yards out.  Marceline won this game by a final score of 42-14.
