  • The Marceline Lady Tigers picked up their second Lewis and Clark Conference softball win this week, downing Paris on the mercy rule without even finishing the fourth inning.   With this win, Marceline has written their own tickets in the Conference race.
Paris got the bases loaded on some early walks, but the Lady Tigers battled back and did not allow one run to cross home plate.   Starting pitcher Abbie Peiffer (left) struck out two in the inning.
Molly Shoop bunted to lead off for Marceline, and stole second.   Elaine Ewigman bunted to get on base as well, and Shoop moved to third.   Sydnee Brooks walked to load the bases.   Morgan McCormick walked as well, bringing in Shoop to start the scoring.   Katie Cupp sacrificed herself with a fly, scoring Ewigman.   McCormick scored on a wild pitch.   Ashley Wheeler walked, and advanced to second on a catcher’s indifference.   After one inning, Marceline led 4-0.
Paris was set down with little noise in the top of the second, with Abbie earning two more strikeouts.   Abbie helped herself at the plate, singling to lead off.   She was replaced as a courtesy on base by Jacee Brooks, who stole second base and went to third on a wild pitch.   Shoop walked, and took second as well.   Ewigman would also walk, and Shoop scored on a wild pitch.   Ewigman came home on a groundout.   Marceline led 7-0 after two innings.
Paris went down in order in the top of the third, with Abbie earning another strikeout.   The Lady Tigers went down in order as well, leaving the score 7-0 after three innings.
Two more strikeouts for Abbie helped put Paris down in order for what would prove to be the final time in the game.   Abbie was walked to lead off, and replaced as a Courtesy Runner by Taylor Snyder.   Shoop bunted to reach base, and Snyder moved to second.   Ashlyn McCluskey walked to load the bases.   With one out, McCormick singled to bring home Snyder and Shoop.
“Being the lead-off hitter it is my job to get on base and score,” said Shoop.   “That’s what I tried to do tonight.”
With two outs, Jacee bunted her way on base to load the bases again.   Claire Dorrell reached on an error, bringing home McCluskey.   A single by Ashley Wheeler would bring home McCormick and Jacee.   McKenna Florine reached base on an error, scoring Dorrell.   Wheeler would move to third on a wild pitch.   Shoop walked, and Wheeler came home on a wild pitch.   McCluskey returned to bat, earning a walk.   Sydnee would end the game, singling to bring home the final run.   Marceline won this game 15-0 on the mercy rule.
