The annual Pink Out softball game was held last night at Rusk Park. To begin a new tradition with this game, the Pink Out will now be held between the Brookfield Lady Dogs and Marceline Lady Tigers.
In this contest, errors and timely hits would prove to make a difference in the latest chapter of the Highway 36 Rivalry.
WIth one out in the top of the first, Elaine Ewigman reached base for Marceline on a Brookfield error. She would move to third on a single by Sydnee Brooks. Morgan McCormick brought her home, and moved Brooks to scoring position, on a groundout. She would end the frame stranded on base.
With two outs in the home half of the inning, Alexis Lindsay reached base for Brookfield on a Marceline error. Lindsay took second soon thereafter, and was brought home off of a double by Sammi Overton. Overton was replaced on base by Sydney Thompson as a courtesy, who would advance all the way home due to errors. Megan Kearns singled, and would also come all the way home on errors. Paige Clawson earned a walk, but ended the inning stranded.
After one inning, Brookfield led Marceline 3-1.
The Lady Tigers went down in order in the top of the second, with Brookfield’s Overton earning a pair of strikeouts. Gabrielle Corf earned a two out walk in the bottom of the frame, and would move to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alesa Frey, but would end the inning stranded.
After two innings, Brookfield led Marceline 3-1.
Marceline again went down in order in the top of the third, with Overton earning another two strikeouts. Lindsay would lead off for Brookfield with a single, and would move to second on a groundout. However, she ended the inning stranded.
After three innings, Brookfield led Marceline 3-1.
Sydnee Brooks led off the top of the fourth for Marceline with a double. She would move to third, but end the inning stranded. Overton earned another strikeout as well. With two outs for Brookfield in the bottom of the frame, Corf doubled. She would move to third on an error, but end the inning stranded.
After four innings, Brookfield led Marceline 3-1.
Jacee Brooks led off the top of the fifth for Marceline with a bunt single. Abbie Peiffer reached base on a Brookfield error, while Jacee took second. The pair would advance to scoring position on a groundout, but would end the frame stranded.
Lindsay walked with one out in the bottom of the inning, and would advance to score on a pair of errors and a groundout. Kearns would also walk, but would end up stranded.
Page 2 of 2 - After five innings, Brookfield led Marceline 4-1.
With one out in the top of the sixth, McCormick doubled. She would steal third, but end the frame stranded on base.
Morgan Ewing walked to start the bottom of the inning for Brookfield, and advanced to third on errors. She was brought home on a single by Jaclyn Weydert. Corf reached on a Fielder’s Choice, where Abbie Peiffer tagged out the lead runner. Bailey Parks reached on an error, advancing Corf to third. Lindsay reached on an error, scoring Corf. Overton was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. She was replaced on base by Thompson once again. Kearns reached on a Fielder’s Choice, scoring Parks and leaving the bases loaded. Lindsay would score the game’s final run on an error.
After six innings, Brookfield led Marceline 8-1.
With two outs in their final at-bats, Abbie Peiffer singled. However, she would end the game stranded on base. Brookfield downed Marceline by a final score of 8-1 in the 2013 Pink Out.
