The Tipton Lady Cardinals softball team put up two runs in the first and third innings and never looked back, beating the Bunceton Lady Dragons Monday night in Bunceton by a score of 6-1.
While managing just one hit in the game against Tipton, the Lady Dragons also scored their only hit of the game in the bottom-half of the fifth but still trailed at that point by a score of 5-1.
Sam Brandes took the loss in the circle for Bunceton, who dropped to 13-7 overall, by giving up six runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out six batters.
Rachel Lenz had the only hit in the game for Bunceton, being a single. Lizzy Maddex, meanwhile, drove in the only run of the game for the Lady Dragons.
For Tipton, Mattie Norman went 4-for-4 with two singles, one double, one home run and two RBIs. Norman also picked up the win in the circle by striking out 13 batters and giving up one run on one hit and three walks.
Bunceton coach Rusty Parkhurst said Tipton has a very good pitcher and the Lady Dragons couldn’t get their bats going against her. “She is also a strong hitter and did damage,” Parkhurst said.
Bunceton won the JV game against Tipton 8-7.
