The Brookfield Lady Dogs softball season has come to an end with a 3-1 Sectional Round loss against Bishop LeBlond Wednesday night at home. This mirrors a similar fate from a few years back when the team was coming in off of a State Final Four run.
The Lady Dogs were the visitors on the scoreboard in this game at home. With two outs in the top of the first, Alexis Lindsay singled. She ended the frame stranded. A costly error in the bottom of the first would put one run across for LeBlond. After one inning, Brookfield trailed 1-0.
In the top of the second, Megan Kearns led off, reaching base on an error. She was sacrificed to second by Taylor Ewing, and took third on a wild pitch. She would end the frame stranded. LeBlond would make little noise, achieving one baserunner, in the bottom of the frame. After two innings, Brookfield trailed 1-0.
With two outs in the top of the third, Bailey Parks bunted to reach base. Lindsay joined her on base, thanks to a LeBlond error. Overton’s hard shot to the third baseman caused another error, loading the bases. Sydney Thompson entered the game as a courtesy runner. Kearns brought home Parks as she reached on an error as well, keeping the bases loaded. The trio ended the frame stranded.
LeBlond managed one more baserunner in the bottom of the inning, but made little noise. After three innings, the game was tied 1-1.
With one out in the top of the fourth, Jaclyn Weydert singled. She would be joined on base by Alesa Frey, who singled with two outs. The pair ended the inning stranded. LeBlond went down in order in their part of the inning. After four innings, the game was tied 1-1.
Lindsay bunted to reach base in the top of the fifth. She ended the inning stranded at first. Levlond would put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth, including a solo homerun to center field. After five innings, Brookfield trailed 3-1.
Brookfield went down in order in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Morgan Ewing subbed in at pitcher for the Lady Dogs. She earned three strikeouts in four at-bats. After six innings, Brookfield trailed 3-1.
With three outs to save their season in the top of the seventh, Brookfield went down in order. The Ldy Dogs ended their season with a 3-1 Sectional loss.
