  • Mary Hortenstine, age 95, of Brookfield, died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline.
    Funeral services will be Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Rothville Baptist Church in Rothville, with Pastor Brandon Smith officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Brookfield. Visitation will be Wednesday, starting at 1:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 in the evening at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, in Brookfield.
    Memorials to Rothville Baptist Church, Rothville Cemetery Association, or the American Cancer Society, may be left at or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.
    Mary Frances Wright Hortenstine was born on June 16, 1918 at Rothville, Missouri to Charles Marshall Wright and Beulah (Reische) Wright. She married Dean Earl Hortenstine on June 28, 1942 at Rothville Baptist Church. To this union two Children were born: David and Carol.
    Mary Frances attended Rothville public school and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman University). She taught and did substitute teaching in local schools. She was a homemaker and lived on a farm near Brookfield. She accepted Christ as her Savior when she was 14 and became a member of Rothville Baptist Church. She tried to live a Christian life and follow Galatians 6:10 : “So then, while we still have opportunity, let us do good to all men.”
    She is survived by a son David and wife Lynne of rural Brookfield, son-in-law Dr. MJ Stockton; grandsons Matthew Horten (Stephanie) Tulsa, OK; Paul Hortenstine, Washington, D.C.; John Hortenstine (Karen) St Louis; Eric Stockton, Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Channing, Wyatt, and Grant Horten of Tulsa and Julia and Hannah Hortenstine of St Louis., Brother in law Howard Tolen, nephews; Gregory (Barbara) Tolen, Frank Giannangelo. Gary Giannangelo Her Cousins Jack Reische, Rick and Beth Meade, Betty Wilson, Brookfield survive her.
    Mary Frances was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Lynn Stockton in March 2013. Also, her husband Dean on March 20, 1987, a grandson Patrick Stockton, and her sister Ellen Giannangelo and husband Dr. Frank Giannangelo and sister Dorothy Jean Tolen; her sister-in-law Mary Alice Hortenstine Bailey and her husband Orval Bailey.
