In August 2013 a cell phone was turned over to the Brookfield Police Department. This cell phone held what was believed to be child pornography. Investigators with the Kirksville Regional Computer Crimes Unit (KRCCU) were contacted to assist with the investigation.
The owner of the phone was identified as Nathan Mead of Brookfield, Mo. Mead was currently on parole and is a registered sex offender. As the existence of this child pornography on Mead’s phone constituted a violation of his parole terms, he was arrested and returned to prison.
As a result of this latest investigation, charges have been filed against Mead for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender within Linn County and for Failing to Register his email and social media accounts as a Sex Offender.
Also evidence of a sexual relationship was found on the cell phone between Mead and a juvenile female. This juvenile female was identified and a forensic interview was conducted. Mead has also been charged with Statutory Rape 2nd Degree, Statutory Sodomy 2nd Degree, and Child Molestation 2nd Degree in reference to those allegations.
Other charges are pending and the investigation continues.
