Kennedy Half-Dollar

After President Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963, Congress and the US Mint wanted to create a coin in his honor. The current law said a coin had to be minted for 25 years and the existing half-half had only been out 15 years. On December 30, 1963, Congress assed a new law that allowed the Kennedy Half-Dollar to come out in 1964.
