Gene Eldon Neil, 86, Brookfield, died on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Mendon United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Kraus and Rev. Martha Truax officiating. Visitation will began at 1 p.m.  Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Breshears Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Burial was in Mussel Fork Cemetery, Keytesville. Pallbearers were Matt Neil, Chad Garoutte, Bobby Busenburg, Adam Baxter, Butch Holman and Tony Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Eastling, Floyd Vaughn, Bill Brockman, Brian Brockman, Brad Beam and John McCambell.
Memorials to Mendon United Methodist Church or Serve Link Hospice may be left at or mailed to the chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO 65236.
Gene was born May 17, 1927, in Murray, NE, son of Ben and Myrtle (Potts) Neil. He married Barbara Holmberg on May 1, 1949, in Pawnee City, NE.
Gene graduated from High School at Union, NE. He was a farmer and raised cattle. He was a past president of the Green Hills Angus Association, he was awarded the Historic Angus Herd Award for being a breeder of registered Angus cattle for 50 years, he was a past member of the Northwestern School Board and the Mussel Fork Cemetery Board and a member of the Mendon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four children, Nola Baxter and husband Phil, Kirkland, WA, Beverly Neil, Warsaw, Connie Garoutte and husband, Scott, Fair Grove,  and Dan Neil and his wife, Brenda, Marceline; three sisters, Helen Wolfe, Union, NE, Betty Barrett and husband, Clyde, Peru, NE, and Kay Cordes and husband, Jim, Conway, AR; six grandchildren, Sasha Eastling, Adam Baxter, Matt Neil, Rachel Busenburg, Katie Neil and Chad Garoutte; and six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Judah and Tabitha Eastling, Aaryn Baxter and Benjamin and Landon Neil.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Cecil and Jerry Neil; and two sisters, Ruth McQuin and Fern Palmer.
