  • Over this past weekend, the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) announced the new District assignments for both football and basketball. Many local teams have seen new competition come into their playoff pictures with this change.

  • Over this past weekend, the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) announced the new District assignments for both football and basketball.  Many local teams have seen new competition come into their playoff pictures with this change.
    Enrollment Breakdown
    In football, there are 21 eight-man football teams, with enrollments between 66-144 students.  Classes 1-4 contain 64 schools each.  Class 1 schools have between 83-233 students, and Class 2 schools have between 235-419 students.  Also in football, schools with 200 or less enrollment can have the option to play eight-man football.
    In basketball, there are 129 boys and 118 girls teams in Class 1, 127 boys and 121 girls teams in Class 2, and 129 boys and 128 girls teams in Class 3.  Enrollment ranges in Classes 1-3 from 20 students (Class 1) to 557 students (Class 3).
    Football Districts
    Looking at the two local football programs, both of which take part in 11-man football, some new faces have appeared to shake up local competition.
    In Class 1, Marceline will do battle in District 6 with Fayette, Harrisburg, Salisbury, Santa Fe, Slater, Sweet Springs, and Westran.  In Class 2, Brookfield will fight through District 8, taking on Bishop LeBlond, Carrollton, East Buchanan, Lathrop, Lawson, Lexington, and Trenton.
    Basketball Districts
    In basketball, the three Class 1 teams in the LCL’s coverage area will share one District tournament.  In Class 1, District 12: Bucklin/Macon County, Linn County, and Meadville will have to deal with Green City, Grundy County, Mercer, Newotwn-Harris, and Novinger High Schools.
    In Class 2, Marceline will take on all comers in District 6, facing Knox County, Milan, Princeton, Putnam County, Schuyler County, and Scotland County.
    In Class 3, Brookfield will battle in District 15, taking on Carrollton, Chillicothe, Lafayette County, Lawson, Lexington, Richmond, and Trenton.
