  • Doris Mossbarger, 91, Chillicothe, formerly of Brookfield, died Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe.
    Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. today, April 21, 2014, at Park Baptist Church, Brookfield, with Rev. David Blakely officiating. The family received friends today from 12:30 p.m. until time for the service at the church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookfield.
    Memorials to the Park Baptist Church Building Fund may be left at the church or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, PO Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.
    Doris Jean, was born June 24, 1922, in Cameron, daughter of Thomas and Zora (Karriker) Courtney. On Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942, she married Lloyd Eugene Mossbarger.
    Doris graduated as valedictorian from Laclede High School in 1940 and Chillicothe Business College in 1941. She worked as a medical assistant for over 26 years for Dr. B.D. Howell, MD in Brookfield, until her retirement. Shewas always involved in her church work as youth director and Sunday school teacher while she was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Brookfield, for many years. She was currently a member of Park Baptist Church, Brookfield, and the New Beginnings Sunday school Class. She was a former member of Chapter R of the PEO Sisterhood.
    Survivors include her husband, Lloyd, Chillicothe; two daughters, Cheryl Cavanah and husband, Shane, Marceline, and Marcia Beemer and husband, James, Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Trey Cavanah and wife, Keri, Richmond, Brad Cavanah and wife, Sarah, Shelley Hayen and husband, Bill and Jeffrey Beemer and wife, Hillary, all of Chillicothe; 10 great-grandchildren she adored; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Michael Shane Cavanah; and two brothers, Charles Dale Courtney and Thomas Earl Courtney.
