Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Troy, with Rev. Eugene Rahmier officiating. Vistation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Friedens United Church of Christ, Moscow Mills, may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 1304 Boone St., Troy, Mo. 63379.
He was born November 7, 1929, in Lincoln County, near Moscow Mills, son of James S. and Mary E. Martin.
He graduated in 1947 from Buchanan High School, Troy. After farming for two years, he attended UMC College of Agriculture, Columbia, from 1949-1952. He served in the US Air Force from 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged and began Veterinary College in 1954 at UMC. He received his Veterinary degree in 1958. He left private practice to attend graduate school in 1965 at Purdue University. After receiving his Master’s Degree in June 1967 he joined the faculty at UMC College of Veterinary Medicine, where he was a faculty member in the Department of Medicine and Surgery, specializing in Theriogenology from 1967-1980, and served as Department Chairman from 1974-1980. In 1980, he became Technical Service Veterinarian with the Upjohn Company (now Zoetis) where he worked until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he served as a part-time consulting veterinarian for Cargill Swine from 1993-2003. He was a past president of Missouri Veterinary Medical Association and a Charter Diplomat of the American College of Theriogenologists.
Survivors include his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tony and LeeAnn Martin, Rocheport, Jim Martin, Columbia, and David and Alondra Martin, Richland, MI; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Adrell Martin, Centralia; his sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Robert Singleton, Clermont, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Shramek, Middletown; niece and caregiver, Karen Brown; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilie in 1986; three half sisters, Earl, Lorene and Mary; and two half-brothers, Hubert and Robert.
