Ruby came to Kansas City in June 1941, and began working at Northeast Tool and Die. She met her husband, Emmett Schoettlin, at Northeast, and they were married on December 23, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1952 they moved to Roeland Park, Kansas, where they raised their son, Karl. Ruby lived in her neighborhood for 60 years and in her home for 49 years. Emmett preceded her in death in 1999.
Ruby was a farm girl at heart and each year planted a garden. When her apple trees were fruitful she spent hours in her kitchen making applesauce. It was her great pleasure to go to North Missouri to visit family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. After her young grandson spent the night at her house he came home and said, “ Grandma treats me like a king!” Ruby loved her family deeply and always had a special bond with her two grandsons, Jeff and Michael.
Honorary pallbearers are Charles Roberts, David Roberts, Jim Roberts, John Kelley, Lloyd Kelley, Robert Anspach, Howard Anspach, Kelley Anspach, and Gene Schoettlin.
Survivors include son Karl and his wife Diane, grandson Jeffrey and his wife Robin, grandson Michael, two great-grandchildren, Grady and Regan, a sister Irene Anspach and brother Charles (Janet) Kelley, and many nieces and nephews.
