  • Sell’s Carpet nails down another Major League title with win against Rick Ball

  • For the second year in a row, Sell’s Carpet emerged as the No. 1 team in Cal Ripken Major after beating Rick Ball Auto Mall 4-2 in the season finale Sunday night at Harley park.
    Although Rick Ball Auto Mall never led in the game, they kept it close throughout while trailing by just three (4-1) after four. Meanwhile, after holding Sell’s Carpet scoreless in its half of the fifth, Rick Ball Auto Mall came back and plated another run in the bottom-half of the inning to cut the lead in half.
    Kayle Rice picked up the win on the mound for Sell’s Carpet while Cody Garner took the loss for Rick Ball Auto Mall.
    Rice pitched three-plus innings and gave up one run on one hit and three walks while striking out three. Carson Campbell then came in and pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief and allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out five. Then, to finish the game, Lucas Ziegelbein pitched 2/3 inning and gave up no runs, no hits and no walks.
    For Rick Ball Auto Mall, Garner pitched the first-five innings and surrendered four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six. Gavin Bishop then came in and pitched one inning in relief and struck out one batter.
    Sell’s Carpet also out-hit Rick Ball Auto Mall 6-2, with Lucas Ziegelbein going 2-for-3 with two singles.
    Nick Howell homered and drove in one run while Kayle Rice added a double, Carson Campbell and Saylor Marquez each with a RBI-single and Sam Esser with one single.
    For Rick Ball Auto Mall, Peyton Keeran had a double and one RBI while Hayden Krumm finished the game with one single.
    In the second game, Browning Hardware edged Huebert Fiberboard 3-2.
    This game was also close as both Browning Hardware and Huebert Fiberboard scored two runs in the first. Meanwhile, after  four scoreless innings, Browning Hardware came back and scored the winning run in the top-half of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Ethan Walker.
    Lane West was the winning pitcher in the game for Browning Hardware while Russell Potter took the loss for Huebert Fiberboard. West pitched the first-five innings and gave up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out nine. Ethan Walker then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed one hit and one walk.
    For Huebert Fiberboard, Quin Gentry pitched the first-three innings and issued two runs on four hits while striking out five. Potter then came in and pitched 2 1/3 innings and yielded one run on one hit and three walks while striking out three. Then, to finish the game, Josh Chrisman pitched 2/3 inning and walked one batter.
    Page 2 of 2 - Browning Hardware also finished the game with five hits, with Carter Bailey going 2-for-3 with two singles. Lane West was 1-for-2 with one double while Bryce Harris and Colton Scott each had one single.
    For Huebert Fiberboard, Josh Chrisman doubled and drove in one run while Elijah Carter added one double and Quin Gentry and Russell Potter each with one single.
