The Marceline Tigers 2010 football season has come to a close with a 49-0 loss at Westran Wednesday night in the Regional round of the MSHSAA playoffs. The Black Rage football team ends their season with a second place finish in their District, and a better record than many pre-season nay-sayers would have given them credit for.
The Tigers won the toss after coming out of the locker room fired up for the rematch from their Homecoming loss. The Tigers kicked off, and Westran was chased from the field on the opening drive, thanks to a key stop on third down from Nathan Weimer and Randal Rosenbaum. Marceline went three-and-out and Rosenbaum’s punt took a good Marceline roll, downed at the Westran seven yard line.
On the ensuing drive, Westran sailed a pass deep downfield for a 37-yard gain and a first down. The Hornets would eventually score on a 31-yard touchdown pass for the game’s first score. The point after was no good, leaving Marceline trailing 6-0.
Q1 1:52 – Marceline 0 Westran 6
Marceline would go three-and-out again, with the punt going short after getting caught in the swirling wind. After a personal four was called on the Tigers, Westran started the next drive near midfield. Westran would drive through the end of the first quarter, and would eventually turn the ball over on downs at the Marceline 24.
Marceline would again go three-and-out, and Westran scored on the ensuing drive after the punt was again caught in the wind. The score came on a six-yard run, and the point-after was good to put the Tigers down 13-0.
Q2 4:04 – Marceline 0 Westran 13
