This week marks the official kickoff of the 2010 football season.  For the Marceline Tigers, the season begins against the Schuyler County Rams of the Tri-Rivers Conference.  The Tigers dominated the Rams to open last season on the road, and hope to be able to achieve the same success this year.
“We have had a good week of practice so far this week,” said Head Coach Paul Thomas.  “We still have a couple of days left to go, but I like what I am seeing so far.”
The Tigers are behind the proverbial eight ball this week, as far as scouting goes, as Schuyler County’s jamboree was rained out.  “Last year they ran the spread offense,” said Coach Thomas.  “They are going to look to get the ball into their quarterback’s hands, he’s a great athlete.”
Going off of last year’s game film, the Tigers are hoping that they see the same looks defensively from Schuyler County.  “Last year they ran a 50-front, but were known to shift to a 40 front,” said Coach Thomas.  For the uninitiated, a 50 and 40 fronts relate to the number of down linemen in the formation.
