The Brookfield Athletic Booster Club held their annual Fall Sports Banquet last night at the Brookfield Elementary School gym. Athletes from the football, softball, girl’s golf and football cheerleading teams were honored at the event.
Booster Club President Julie Wright welcomed the assembled parents, family, students and coaches to the event, and Whitney Wilburn began the evening with an invocation. After a meal provided by Booster Club and the students, the evening’s awards presentation began.
Softball Head Coach Mickey Beach started the season recaps with thank-you’s to a number of groups and individuals. Special thanks was made to the parents, Brookfield Parks and Recreation, Mark Ridgway, and the Pink-Out Committee.
Coach Beach then recognized the junior varsity team, who boasted a 13-3 record on the season, taking second in the Monroe City JV Tournament.
Next was the recognition of the varsity team, who went 19-13 on the season, took second at the Chillicothe and Monroe City Tournaments, won District, Sectional, and Regional Championships, and took third place in the State.
Coach Beach noted that 10 players on the team hit over .250, the team hit 10 home runs, and stole only 14 bases. An emotional Coach Beach said: “There isn’t a stat to measure what these girls have inside.”
Each player was introduced, and the team received a standing ovation from the crowd. Earning Varsity letters were: Amber Banks, Kristen Ehrich, Kelsie Frey, McKenzie Roberts, Cassady Sisson, Rachel Stauffer, Katee Booth, Paige Clawson, Ashlyn Cupp, Paige Drescher, Alesa Frey, Ashley Kearns, Sammi Overton, Kelsi Shoop, and Abby York.
Team awards were given to: Ashley Kearns (Gold Glove), Abby York (Stolen Base, Bulldog Awards), Ashlyn Cupp (RBI Award), Kelsey Keune (Most Improved), and Kelsie Frey (MVP).
