Major James Blueitt, 73, of Columbia passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2016 at University of Missouri Hospital.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 16, funeral services followed at at Parker-Millard Funeral Service with Bishop Lorenzo Lawson, officiating.

Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.

He was born on August 5, 1943 in Columbia, the son of Fred Blueitt and Estell (Turner) Blueitt, who preceded him in death.

Major was employed at Columbia Brick and Tile until they closed. He then worked for Dialysis Clinic, Inc. of Columbia, retiring after nearly twenty years. Major was a friend to everyone he met. He lived his life to the fullest and on his own terms. He liked sports and fishing, but he loved people. His family and friends knew him by many names: Scrappie, Scooby, Louie and Old Player to name a few. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the clubs in town. He was known to hang out at Tony’s Pizza for hours at a time.

He is survived by two daughters, Jeanetta Blueitt, Nicole Blueitt both of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Ernest (Joyce) Blueitt of Lakewood, Colo., Fred Blueitt, Bennie (Cythnia) Blueitt; five sisters, Marcelle Lige, Carrie (Elmer) Redden, Risa (Phillip) Warrick, Leneta Dixon, Patricia Blueitt; one aunt, Mary Catherine Turner, all of Columbia; and seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents Major was preceded in death by one daughter, Tracy Crum Williams.
