The Linn County General Municipal Election is April 3.

This election preview will focus on the candidates running for Bucklin Alderman.

Frances Jenkins

What do the people of Bucklin need to know about why you’re running for Alderman of Bucklin?

I like working with people. I want to go back and work on some projects I’d like to see through. I’d like to develop our city lake. At one time we had a real nice picnic area out there, we had a place for people to fish. It’s been let go. I’d like to fix it up for the people, put a barbecue grill, picnic table, maybe a walking trail around the lake.

Why do you feel you’re the best fit?

I don’t know that I’m the best fit for the job, I just like the job. I like working with people and for the people. My phone is in the phone book and they can call me anytime they want to. I just like the town.

What do you think sets you apart from the other candidates?

I don’t know that too much sets me apart from the other candidates.

What would be your first duty if elected?

My first priority would be to clean up the town. Clean up some of the old houses. The place needs to be cleaned up.

As an Incumbent what do you feel like has been your biggest accomplishment?

Small towns see a lot of changes and the economy can really hurt small towns. We have a good lumber yard and a grocery store. We have a good city council that works together. Anything that comes up we can deal with it.

What should the people of Bucklin need to know about why you’re running for Alderman?

I’m running because it’s what you should do as a person with civil responsibility. I’ve taught at the Bucklin school for 10 years I’ve been very active with sports and children activities here at school. I want to branch out from there. We recently moved to the community two years ago and this is something I want to do the ensure the longevity of our small town. I just want to give back to my community.

What is the biggest impact you hope to have as a Bucklin alderman?

To make wise to decisions with the money that we have. I’d also like to create programs for our children and families to give them something to do.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I'm not for sure that I have anything that really sets me apart from the other candidates.   What I do know is that I will have good ideas and I'm good at listening to others' ideas while keeping an open mind.  All of our goals should be the same, to do what is best for the community of Bucklin.

What will be the biggest challenge with taking on this position?

The biggest challenge with taking on this position will be juggling all my duties as husband, father, teacher, coach and a business owner but I'm lucky to have such a big support group to help me keep it all running smoothly.

What will be your first priority as alderman of Bucklin?

My first priorities, If elected, will be to learn the job I was elected for effectively.
