The Rolla tennis team hosted Jeff City on Monday, April 30. Because Rolla was slated to play in the Ozark Conference Tournament the next day, the two teams played an abbreviated match. Jeff City beat the Bulldogs 5-1.
The two teams played the style of play from the State Tournament, where teams stop after one team reaches five points. Rolla was able to win one of the three doubles matches, as Monty Jawad and Micah Martin pulled out a 9-7 victory over Alec Krumm and Adam Allsbury at number three. Blake Riedle and Ethan Walker lost 8-0 at number one, while Pranal Madria and Joel Schott fell 8-3.
Rolla trailed 2-1 going into singles, where Jeff City won the first three matches to win 501. Madria lost 8-0, Riedle fell 8-2 and Walker lost 8-1. No JV matches were played.
"It was a good match for what it was," said head coach Joe Schisler. "The guys should be fresh and ready for the conference tournament. They have strong kids at one and two and both are lefties. That threw my boys for a loop. I hope the boys can turn the page and be ready to play tomorrow, then finish the season strong."
The Ozark Conference Tournament was played on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. Next up for Rolla is Districts. Team Districts will begin on Monday, April 7, but the seeding is yet to be determined. Individual Districts will be played at Camdenton on Friday, April 11.
