Chariton County resident Sarah Linebaugh has been charged with murder in the death of her daughter Sophia Linebaugh.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Drug and Crime Control division, Linebaugh killed her daughter, then shot herself.

She has been charged with first-degree murder, a class A felony.

A family member of Linebaugh made an emergency to call around 10 a.m. March 19. The Chariton County Sheriff’s Office and emergency crews responded to a residence in Rothville, Mo. After arriving, the sheriff’s office made a request to the Missouri State Highway Patrol to assist. The Highway Patrol then conducted an investigation on Linebaugh.

Highway Patrol requested and was granted a search warrant for Linebaugh’s house the afternoon of March 19.

Her next possible court date is May 22 at the Chariton County Courthouse. Linebaugh is being held in the Chariton County jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

Linebaugh was rushed to University Hospital in Columbia with an abdomen wound and remained there until April 26. That same day a warrant was granted for Linebaugh’s arrest.

An autopsy was performed on Sophia Linebaugh, but the official results have not been received. According to Eric Brown, Public Information Officer for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B, Linebaugh died March 18, a day before the investigation started.
