The Walsworth Community Center in Marceline is receiving its first new wall covering since the building was opened in 2002.

The installation of the new wall covering started a couple weeks ago and will finish before May 12. The center has been open during the work on the walls.

The fundraiser started in late 2017 with the goal to replace the wall covering. Local businesses and citizens have donated $2,000 so far. Walmart has donated $850 to the fundraiser, Moore Fans donated $500 as well. The fundraiser will end after May 12.

Rod Blackwell and Dave Frandson both work for Walsworth Printing and Publishing in the maintenance department and have been helping out at the center to put up the new covering. The work on the new wall covering started April 16 and will finish before May 12.

The center opened in 2001. The original wall covering was put up in 2002. The wall covering has not been updated since then. The old wall covering was hard to clean and even coming away from the wall in some areas. Pulliam’s Carpet in Brookfield has provided the wall covering to the center.

According to Van Dyke, finding the right carpet was the hardest part.

“It took us four months to select the right carpet,” Van Dyke said.

For Van Dyke, it is a welcomed change.

“We’re excited about the new look,” Van Dyke said. “Just another improvement for the building, we’re always trying to keep the building up to date and in good shape.”
