The United Way of Northeast Missouri is recruiting senior volunteers to work with children as part of their Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program this fall at Kirksville R-III and Macon R-I schools.

Volunteers in the program spend one hour per week working with children in first through fourth grade to improve their reading and comprehension skills. Volunteers do not need to have a teaching background, and grade-appropriate books and classroom materials are provided.

A one-day training session for new volunteers will be held Oct. 18 at the Kirksville R-III Board of Education Conference Room from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you would like to become a tutor, contact Kirksville’s district facilitator for Oasis, Marcy Graham, at (660) 627-5766 or
