Two seniors from William Chrisman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• Katie Schaefer has received the McCoy Award, has been a Girls State delegate, is in the French Club, is the captain of the tennis team and is president of the National Honor Society. Outside school, she has a part-time job.

She plans to attend a university – probably the University of Missouri, she says – to major in engineering with a focus on civil or mechanical engineering.

She is the daughter of Drew and Janet Schaefer.

• Colton Kerr has received the McCoy Award, has attended the Missouri Scholars Academy, has been in the West Point summer leaders experience, has been a delegate to Boys State, and was named cadet of the year for Missouri.

He is in Junior ROTC, plays football and tennis, is in the Scholar Bowl and is in the ACE Club.

He plans to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point or enroll in the ROTC program through a four-year college and major in engineering and then enter the Army as an officer.

He is the son of Anna and Phil Kerr.
