Whatever Holiday you celebrate this season, a common theme throughout them all seems to be of giving and receiving gifts.  It is hard to argue with the gift of charity any time, and particularly at this time of the year.  The good news is that there are a number of local charities that can use your help.  The LCL sent out a request for info on charities in the area, and four such organizations contacted us with details.
Starting in Marceline, the Linn County Pregnancy Resource Center, located at 225 West Hayden, Suite 250, is a place to turn for help when you are pregnant and need support and encouragement.  According to Ann Moore, the Center offers free and confidential services including pregnancy tests, options counseling, parenting education, and pregnancy resources.
Moore notes that the donations most needed are monetary, diapers in sizes three and five, and formula.  To make a donation, contact Ann Moore at linncountyprc@gmail.com or 660-376-2222.
In Brookfield, the Christian Soldiers-Angels of Charity are holding their First Annual toy drive.  The deadline for applications has passed, but the group could still use donations.  Suggested items are blankets, burp rags, rattles/teething rings, push toys, music makers, stuffed animals, coloring books/crayons, dolls, toy cars, games/cards, outdoor toys, sports equipment, watches, wallets, jewelry, make-up, blank CD’s, journals/diaries, and books.  The group is not looking for clothing donations. All toys will go to Linn County children.
There is a drop-off box at the Linn County Leader office, as well as at the GHCAA.  For more information, call Dick’s Auto at 660-258-7227.
