MARCELINE – The 2009 version of the Tiger football team is currently going through offseason camps and training programs to roll out a breed of cat that hasn’t prowled the field of Chester Ray Stadium for some time. Along with the efforts of his players, head coach Shane Cavanah is spearheading a drive to purchase much needed new game uniforms for the tigers. Coach Shane Cavanah is quoted as saying, “I hope we can rejuvenate the Tiger Pride enthusiasm that I remember from the late ‘80’s and early 90’s. We hope to get Chester Ray Stadium rockin’ at Friday night home games. And after a road game, we want the place we visited to remember that Marceline has been there!” With that goal in mind, Coach Cavanah envisioned the uniform drive and the fund-raising effort began.
The uniform drive will be quite active during the July 4th celebration. Fund-raising activities during the celebration will include “Rent a Tiger” on July 4th at 7:30 p.m. on the tennis courts. This will be an auction sponsored by the football Moms. For the highest bidder on each team member, the player is to perform 4 hours of work, doing yard work, painting, or whatever the buyer needs done. It’s rumored that the coaching staff and some school administrators will be “put on the auction block” also.
Other activities to help raise funds during the week-long carnival are the selling of “battled tested” football jerseys and the Football Moms will have a booth selling Dippin’ Dots. Orders for Krispy Cream donuts to be delivered the week of July 20th can be placed at the booth as well. Also, a two mile Firecracker Run/Walk is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. on the 4th starting at the Cotton Cavanah Youth Center.
