BROOKFIELD — It already appears that the $8 million revenue bond issue passed during last April’s municipal election will be a line of credit the City of Brookfield may not have to fully access.
Although it’s too early to say for certain, the USDA is currently looking at a potential low-interest loan and grant that could be awarded to the City of Brookfield for funding the upcoming renovations to the municipal sewer and drinking water systems.
To move that process along, the City of Brookfield has submitted a preliminary engineering plan put together by Allstate Consultants of Marceline.
Allstate Consultants has given a preliminary estimate of $20,000 for its services, but until surveying is completed, it will be hard to know what the final cost for engineering will be.
Brookfield City Manager Dave Hane explains that this preliminary engineering report is required so that the USDA can move forward with development of a potential funding package for the sewer and drinking water projects.
During Tuesday evening’s Brookfield City Council meeting, the Council approved an ordinance concerning the preliminary engineering agreement.
