Gary Routledge, the Director of the Linn County Health Department in Brookfield, is reminding all Linn Countians that it is not too late to have yourself and your loved ones vaccinated against the H1N1 flu. A clinic is scheduled for this Thursday, January 28, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 635 South Main in Brookfield. Appointments need to be made by calling 1-660-258-7251.
Lately, there has been less attention focused on the H1N1 flu in recent weeks, although people across the state and nation are still becoming seriously ill and even dying. This H1N1 virus is expected to last into the spring, and perhaps even beyond. Another wave of the H1N1 pandemic could strike within the next coming weeks. It is a known fact that flu viruses change constantly,  could spread more easily and can cause even more severe illnesses.
The H1N1 virus has been more severe for some population groups including, pregnant women, school-age children, and young adults. Vaccination is the key to prevention.
Note that people with chronic health conditions are at higher risk of serious influenza-related complications, because their immune systems may be weakened or the flu could make their chronic health issues more severe. These high risk conditions include asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney and liver disorders, neurological disorders, blood disorders, cancer, HIV, and others.
The H1N1 flu vaccine is safe, effective, and the best way to protect yourself and your family. Feel free to contact the Linn County Health Department for more information at 660-258-7251, or call the Missouri H1N1 Info Line at 1-877-348-4141.
