I am very excited to be the new Executive Director at the YMCA and I am looking forward to serving the needs of Linn County and the surrounding areas. As many of you know I have been the Program Director for our YMCA for the past 11 years. I also worked as a part time employee in the infancy of the YMCA (1997-1998) organizing weightlifting classes, supervising sports leagues, clerical duties and whatever else was needed.
We are currently doing our “Y” Winners basketball league and have just one week left. This is the biggest youth sports program that we offer at this time. We have 425 kids split up into 57 teams. This season has gone surprisingly well considering the nasty weather we have had lately. I would like to thank the all the VOLUNTEER coaches for their help with this program. Without them we wouldn’t have the league.
The YMCA is starting a new program in March in collaboration with the Transitions Low Glycemic Index Weight Management team. This is called Fit and Thin in 2010. This challenge is offered to people seeking motivation to make healthy lifestyle changes. The challenge is 12 weeks long with prizes being offered to the top male and female competitor with the biggest percentage of body fat lost. The goal is to promote healthy body fat loss. Educational information will be provided at registration as well as monthly follow-up measurements. All competitors must be 18 or older to participate. The first weigh-in is March 11 from 6pm-8pm at the YMCA. This is free to participate and you don’t have to be a YMCA member.
On Monday, February 22 the new fitness sessions start at the “Y” and we have many classes to choose from. Classes from weightlifting to kickboxing to youth fitness, we have something for everyone. Don’t be shy, come on in to see what we have to offer.
