The Marceline High School basketball teams came straight back to work on Monday night after the Tiger Hoops Classic for a trio of Lewis and Clark Conference games against Fayette. The JV boys, Varsity girls, and Varsity boys were all in action at Tiger Fieldhouse.
In the Varsity girls contest, Abby Gauthier’s opening basket sent the Lady Tigers off on an opening 4-0 run in the first three minutes. However, Fayette responded with a 4-0 run of their own to draw the contest even. A buzzer-beater by Fayette put Marceline in a 10-8 hole after one quarter.
Gauthier scored first again in the second quarter, but Fayette responded with a 6-0 run to extend their lead. A late three-pointer from Fayette put the Lady Tigers down 20-13 at the half.
The Tigers Brett McGlothlin responded to an opening three-pointer by Fayette to start the nightcap off with a bang. A three-pointer from McGlothlin ended a Fayette 6-0 run that followed his opening basket. After one quarter, Marceline trailed 19-13.
Fayette scored first again in the second quarter, but the Tigers responded with a hoop and harm by Brennen Floray, with the free throw. A mid-quarter run by Marceline would close the gap to three points, but Fayette would grow their lead back to 10 points late. A three-quarter court heavy by Tim Jordan found nothing but the bottom of the net to send the Tigers into the locker room with momentum. At halftime, Marceline trailed 36-29.
