The Brookfield High School basketball teams have played a pair of Clarence Cannon Conference games recently, and with no easy games in this Conference, have come away with a pair of losses.
Last night, the teams returned home for a pair of games against Centralia. In the girls game, the Lady Dogs were held scoreless in the opening frame, while Centralia went on a 14-0 run. After one quarter, Brookfield trailed 14-0.
The Centralia run ended at 16-0, with a hoop from Maggie Almond at the 6:57 mark. A hoop and harm on Amanda Slater at the 5:23 mark showed some fire for the Lady Dogs offense. At the half, Brookfield trailed 28-9.
In the nightcap, the Dogs fell behind early, with Centralia opening on a 7-0 run ending with a Dean Gall hoop and harm, with the free throw, at 4:14. After one quarter, Brookfield trailed 14-5.
A Chris McCurley three-pointer at the 7:00 responded to an opening three ball by Centralia. In the first half of the second quarter, the teams scored back-and-forth. A steal and hoop by Gall with under a minute sparked the sparse home crowd before the half ended. At halftime, Brookfield trailed 27-14.
