The Marceline Tigers and Lady Tigers hosted Schuyler County in what appeared to be a standard non-Conference game on Friday night at Tiger Fieldhouse. However, upon further examination, one remembers that this was a game against a District opponent, and a great chance to preview some post-season action.
The Lady Tigers started the evening off against the Lady Rams and after a Madison McCormick hoop got things started, the Marceline girls went on a 10-0 run in the first five minutes. After a Schuyler buzzer-beater, the Lady Tigers led 19-10 after one quarter.
Morgan McCormick’s pair of free throws got a back-and-forth opening to the second quarter started. Foul trouble for the Lady Tigers helped Schuyler get back into the game, but Marceline still led at the half 30-23.
The boys contest started off slowly for both teams, with Schuyler nailing a three-pointer fast and then going scoreless, and Marceline’s Brennen Floray putting in a hoop at the 6:42 mark for the Tigers. From that point, through the halfway mark of the opening quarter, Marceline took advantage of a 13-0 run to take the early lead. After one quarter was in the books, the Tigers led 27-6.
Over one minute into the second frame, Chase Hilsabeck started the scoring, and it was nearly a minute before Schuyler responded. Schyler County’s outside shooting proficiency was their highlight in the second quarter, as was Marceline’s tough inside play. At the half, the Tigers led 38-18.
