The Meadville Invitational Basketball tournament has come to a close over the weekend, and a number of area teams brought home hardware. In the final round, teams from Linn County R-1, Macon County, Northwestern, and Meadville vied for trophies.
In the girls consolation game, the Linn County Lady Mustangs battled the Northwestern Lady Eagles. Good passing early gave the Lady Eagles some quick baskets. Despite good pressure from the Lady Mustangs defense, the Northwestern offense was hot early on. After one quarter, Northwestern led 16-11.
To start the second frame, the Linn County offense heated up, while the Lady Eagles went cold. Linn County took their first lead of the game at the 3:45 mark, but a flurry of offense would give Northwestern back the lead at the half, 27-25.
The Linn County Mustangs took on Tina-Avalon in the boys Consolation game. Linn County opened scoring in the game with an 11-0 run that started two minutes in, and went for nearly half of the first quarter. After one quarter was in the books, Linn County led 17-7.
An opening hoop nearly two minutes started the Mustangs off well, but an early run by Tina-Avalon got them within five points. However, Linn County surged late in the frame to re-extend their lead back to double figures. At halftime, the Mustangs led 30-17.
