Willard B. Avery, 92, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Lenoir Woods in Columbia.
The family will hold a private burial. The family will have a reception from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 14191 Billingsville Rd., Boonville, MO.
Willard B. Avery was born March 19, 1925 in Springfield, Mo., the son of Walter Thomas Avery and Clara Hoehn Avery.
He married Mary Elizabeth Springgate June 2, 1951 in New Haven. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945, and continued in the Naval Reserves until 1955. He graduated from Iowa State with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis. He later attended St. Louis University Medical School and after graduation was a pediatrician for over 50 years. He also farmed in Boonville and Blackwater.
He is survived by his children, Patricia Avery of Columbia, Barbara Wilkinson (Robert) of St. Louis, Kathleen O’Brian (Scott) of Harrisburg, Pa.; grandchildren, Jonathan Wilkinson (Linda); David Wilkinson (Ashley); Kelsey Fasnacht (Brock); Kalen O’Brian; great grandchildren, Charlie and Juliette Wilkinson; and one step-son, George Hubbell (Victoria) and family.
Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Springgate Avery; his parents; his brother, Walter L. Avery; and his second wife, Mary Hubbell Avery.
