Elizabeth Louise “Betty Porter” Huffman, 100, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo.

Elizabeth Louise “Betty Porter” Huffman, 100, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo.

Mrs. Huffman was born on July 9, 1917 in Kirksville, MO in Adair County to Cary Franklin and Jewell Grace (Lethcho) Porter. She married Willard Huffman of Kirksville on June 15, 1938. He preceded her in death November 12, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John Franklin, Charles Phillip and Bert Lyle Porter; two sisters Laura Rosemary Large and Hazel Joan Sanders; one granddaughter Christine Gilliam and one great granddaughter Emma Gilliam.

Survivors include one brother, Fredrick Gale Porter and his wife Sandy of Beaumont, CA and one sister-in-law Mary Mae (Montrief) Porter; one son Thomas H. Huffman and his wife Barbara of Thrall, TX; two daughters, Carrie Jean Ireland of Ozark, MO and Willa F. Gilliam and her husband John of Rayville, MO; 6 grandchildren: Ryan Huffman and his wife Cindy, Kimbra Hunter and her husband Kevin, Stephanie Turner and her husband Kenith, Heather Weter and her husband, Michael, Michael Gilliam and his wife Connie, and Jesse Gilliam and his wife Deanna; 15 great grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Huffman was raised and educated in the Kirksville area. She worked as head cook in the Platte County R-5 School District for 17 years and owned and operated a mobile home park in Grand Junction, CO and Red’s Roost restaurant in Camdenton, MO. She became a Christian as a young girl and was a dedicated Sunday School and Bible School teacher in Baptist churches for many years. She lived in Richmond for 13 years where she was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Shirkey Hospice or to the Richmond First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will follow services Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, MO. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
