Edith Faye Gordon

Edith Faye (Hanson) Gordon, age 82, of rural Rothville, died Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Boone Hospital in Columbia following complications resulting from a recent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in Brookfield with Pastor Mandy Wiedeman and Rev. Steven Pinnell officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at the Rothville Cemetery in Rothville.

Edith was born April 6, 1936, at the family home north of Bucklin to Erick Stanley Hanson and Felice Violette (Carter) Hanson. On June 19, 1955, she married William (Bill) Hamilton Gordon in Brookfield. They celebrated 63 years of marriage this summer, and he survives of the home.

She attended Rothville School, then Northwestern of Mendon, graduating in 1954. She began college at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and later returned to finish her elementary education degree, graduating in 1974 at Central Methodist College in Fayette. She was employed a short time at Greenlease Cadillac Car Co., the Coast to Coast Store in Salisbury for several years, and taught elementary school for 25 years in the Westran, Lewis Co. C-1, Bowling Green, and Rich Hill school districts. She continued to substitute teach (following her retirement) for the Marceline, Northwestern, and Brookfield school districts. She particularly enjoyed teaching third grade.

Edith was a 51-year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, serving as an officer numerous times. She served on a number of school committees, was a PTA member, a Booster Club member in several school districts, and was currently a member of the First Christian Church of Brookfield. She sang in the choir, served as an Elder, a deacon, past president of Christian Women's Fellowship, and served on several other church committees. She was a member of the Rothville Cemetery Board and a former member of Christian Women's Club. She enjoyed reading, music, quilting, playing cards and dominoes, talking and texting with friends and family, and was a cheerleader for her whole family. 

She is also survived by four children and their spouses: Rob and Linda Gordon, Boonville; Rick and Karen Gordon, Norwood; Dan and Pam Gordon, Liberty; and Susan and Mark Reardon, Overland Park, KS. Two sisters and a brother: JoAnne Fox, Brookfield; Hilda Sayler and husband, Dale, Indian Grove; and Phillip Hanson, Garland, TX; two brothers-in law, Ray Gordon, Hartsburg; and Frank Gordon and wife, Francee; and one sister-in-law, Mary Gordon Achor, all of Columbia. Her 10 grandchildren include Kevyn Gordon, Kailey (Gordon) Fleming, Geneva (Gordon) Garcia, Andrea (Gordon) Simandl, Erick Gordon, Eli Gordon, Katheryn (Gordon) Sidor, Daniel Reardon, Lauren (Reardon) Jennings, and Sean Reardon. Her 10 great-grandchildren include Baron, Braden, Annabelle, Maya, Lynley, Bretton, Ainsley, Leah, Kensley, and Oakley. In addition, she is survived by nine nieces, seven nephews, and a number of great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David Hanson; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and one great niece.

Lyle Orr

Lyle Orr, age 84, of Brookfield, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 27, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Richard Evans officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be Sunday, August 26, 2018, from 2:00 until 4:00 in the afternoon at the funeral home.

Lyle Gordon, son of Lloyd and Lola (Clark) Orr, was born August 27, 1933 in Kidder. He was married to Fern Wilson and together they had 8 children, Rick, Jim, Randy, Brenda, Ronnie, Eddie, Sandy, and Roger Dale. On December 31, 1982, he married Patricia Allen and they have two children, Kendal and Kyle.

He was a lifelong carpenter and a business owner. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and the Marceline Golf Club and Hamilton Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Patty of the home; nine children, Rick Orr and wife, Jan of Linneus, Jim Orr and wife, Kathy of Brookfield, Randy Orr and wife, Linda of Kansas City, Brenda Gall and husband, Dan of Winston, Ronnie Orr and wife, Cindy of Hamilton, Eddie Orr and wife, Michelle of Kidder, Sandy Gann and husband, Tim of Brookfield, Kyle Orr and wife, Kelsey of Springfield, and Kendal Orr and wife, Whitney of Brookfield; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Roberts and husband, Lee of Pleasant Valley, and Carol Stichler of Laurie; constant companion, Charlie of the home; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

His parents; one infant son, Roger Dale Orr; one brother-in-law, Larry Stichler; and two daughters-in-law, Brenda Orr and Brenna Orr preceded him in death.
