Ruth Chaffee, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center, Marceline.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline, with Rev. Elmer McCully and Mr. D.D. Russell officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 this evening, March 1, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryan Switzer, Bob and Nathan Davis, Keith, Jordan and Ben Williams, Ben Thompson and David Borron.
Memorials to New Boston Cemetery may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, Mo. 64658.
Ruth was born February 29, 1920, near New Boston, daughter of Hugh and Alma (Bradley) Borron. She married Clifford Chaffee, May 2, 1944, in Kansas City. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Ruth graduated from Shelby High School with the Class of 1938 and Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University). She taught in rural schools in Nester, Warner and New Boston and her remaining years at Bucklin where she taught first and third grades for 29 years. She wrote all the information for the New Boston Town and Church book which was published in 1974. She was a member of New Boston Christian Church.
Survivors include a niece, Emily Switzer, Bucklin; nephews, Donald Borron, Kansas City, and Barney and Larry Borron, New Boston; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Orval, Arthur and Tracy; nephews, Raymond, Dale, Darrell, Darwin and Richard Borron; and a niece, Wanda Almond.
