Melvin Guy Johnson, 60, died Friday, March 5, 2010, in Seward, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Southside Baptist Church, 301 E. Shanklin St., Carrollton. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton, and from 12 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. A private burial service will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010, in Bethel Cemetery, Queen City.

Melvin was born June 24, 1949, in Queen City, son of Ted and Geneva Johnson. He married Jeannette (Yagel) Johnson.
Melvin graduated in 1966 from Queen City High School and from the University of Missouri with a BS in Agriculture and a MS in Agronomy. He was a member, treasurer and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, Seward, and former member, trustee and deacon of Southside Baptist Church, Carrollton. He worked nearly 35 years as an agronomist and hybrid corn breeder for several seed companies, most recently with Syngenta Seeds, Inc., Seward.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannette, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Steven Porter, Durham, N.C., and a son, Jared Johnson, Eden Prairie, Minn.; his father and step-mother, Ted and Fern Johnson, Queen City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Evan and Janet, Glenwood, Alvin and Becky, Kirksville, and Kevin and Tammy, Queen City; his mother-in-law, Claribel Yagel, Brookfield; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Ed and Linda Yagel, Hinton, Iowa, and Scott and Joyce Yagel, Carrollton; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Yagel, Brookfield, and Lynnette Yearns, Warrensburg; cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
