George Fred Ammon, 83, Salisbury, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in East Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Salisbury, with Gail Brown officiating. Military honors will be provided Claud Duff Post #391 American Legion of Salisbury. Visitation will be held from 4-7:30 this evening, Feb. 12, 2010, at Gibson Funeral Home, Brunswick. Pallbearers will be Jim Srader, Don Breshears, Gary Woolston, John Kehr, Randy Woolston and Larry Breshears.
Memorials to Warren Masonic Lodge #74 AF&AM of Keytesville may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, Mo. 65236.
Fred was born July 30, 1926, in Mendon, son of Fred and Alice Bernice (Conger) Ammon. He married Betty Jo Woolston, October 2, 1953, in Harrisonville, Ark.
He completed high school in 1944 in Mendon. He served in the US Army in the Philippines during World War II. After returning home, he worked for the Wabash Railroad, and later became an engineer for Northfolk and Souther Railroad. He was a 50 year member of Mendon Masonic Lodge and was now a member of Warren Masonic Lodge #74 AF&AM, Keytesville. He had also been active in farming and raising Charolais cattle.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo, of the home; two sons, Fred (Gene) Ammon, Gatlinburg, Tenn., and Alan Ray Ammon, Salisbury; two sisters, Almira Stephens, Brookfield, and Doris Tiemeyer, Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; one son, Barry Lynn Ammon; and brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.
