L. Ruth Elliott, 89, New Cambria, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Boone Hospital, Columbia.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline, with Rev. Mary Ellen Waychoff officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Little Learners Preschool, 503 South Main, New Cambria, Mo. 63558, and they may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, Mo. 64658.
She was born June 19, 1922, near Mendon, daughter of Charles W. Johnson and Josephine (Lyford) Johnson. On November 7, 1940, she married Garland F. Elliott.
After their marriage, Ruth and Garland moved to South Dakota until 1951 when they purchased their farm and made their home south of New Cambria. She was employed for nearly 20 years at Bill and Bob’s IGA, Marceline.
Survivors include her husband, Garland, of the home; her three children, Garland, Jr. (Charlotte), Charles “Chuck” (Bess), and Roxanne “Roxi” Drescher (Tom Schubel); seven grandchildren, Lorie (Allen) Souther, Wendi (Vince) Matlick, Angie (Jim) Carriker, Christine Elliott, Justin (Shelia) Drescher, Blake (Karyl) Drescher, and Alexis (Brian) Jurkofsky; 14 great-grandchildren, Tyler (Cassidy) Souther, Trevor Souther, Madyson Matlick, Kyleigh (Tell) Campbell, Bailey Ratliff, Tanner and Gracee Ruth-Anne Carriker, Tara Brown, Blain Drescher, Paige, Peyton, and Gunnar Drescher, and Jenna and Chase Jurkofsky; great-great-grandchildren, Max Souther and Piper Campbell, both of New Cambria; and her sister, Mary Fadigia, Grand Junction, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Bennie Lee Van, brother, Bill Johnson, and grandson, Steven Elliott.
