The Marceline girls' basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season at home on Friday night, dominating the Westran Hornets throughout. The Tigers defeated Westran 53-30, and although the home side was never able to force the clock to run continuously, it achieved as much as a 28 point lead in the fourth quarter.
With the victory, the Tigers advance to .500 and 3-2 within the Lewis & Clark. The Hornets remain winless within the conference.
The Tigers held Westran to just a single bucket in the second quarter, and returned to their locker room with a 20-7 lead at the halftime intermission. Westran never had much of an opportunity to claw its way back into the game in the later stages, and the Tigers will look to ride that momentum in their final four basketball games of the season, one of which will have already transpired by the time of this publication.
Kenzie Stahl and Maycee Edgar led the Tigers with 16 points apiece. All of Edgar's points came in the second half. Despite her best efforts, Westran's Maddy Denslow's 28 points was not nearly enough to push her team over the hump.
Having hosted Brookfield on Monday night, the Tigers have a three-game road stretch to end the regular season, traveling to Salisbury on Tuesday, Fayette on Friday, and Knox County at the beginning of next week.
