The Brookfield track team was in Trenton on Thursday evening for a meet dubbed the Early Bird Track Meet, and both boys and girls found a deal of success throughout the night.

The girls put a number of athletes atop the proverbial podium on Thursday, highlighted by Kate Ewing's dominant performance in the javelin throw. Although the competition was just introduced last season, she topped her old school record with a 108'11" toss, good for first place. Leslie Dean also hit the highest spot on the podium with a 3200-meter time of 14:02.

Rylee Sensenich finished second in the high jump, and Kaley Smith was also runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles. The Bulldogs' 1600 meter team composed of Tayah Mathys, Kaley Smith, Ewing, and Kaylie Stufflebean finished second as well.

The boys' side's highlights were in the relays and field events. Tanner Wallace was top dog in the pole vault, and also had a fine early-season showing in the baton events. The 400-meter relay team of Brandon Collins, Khalil Walker, Ghunnar Martin, and Wallace brought home gold, as did the 1600-meter relay team comprised of Walker, Collins, Tim Izard, and Jackson Bryan. The boys' 800-meter relay team (Walker, Collins, Wallace, Izard) finished second.

Brookfield is scheduled to compete again in Clark County on Tuesday, weather pending.
