The finish was dramatic for the Marceline golf team on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers finished third place in their own meet, narrowly missing the chance to leave the course as the day's champions.
Although 10 teams attended on Wednesday, only five of them had full five-man lineups. Macon's team score of 331 nipped Westran by just one stroke.
Marceline finished with a 335.
Brookfield attended, but broke up the team into varsity and junior varsity with four golfers on either. No Bulldog was under 100 strokes.
Marceline senior Trey Hamilton finished with a round of 76 strokes to finish behind only Westran's Trey Burton. The Tigers' Colby Sims and Rylan Chrisman finished the afternoon with respective scores of 83 and 87.
"We would have liked a better result at our own tournament, but you can't be mad about the team score," Marceline coach Tim Jordan said. "Shooting a 335 and bringing home third place is nothing to hang our heads about. It's hard to be mad because this is the first good week of weather and full slate that we've had.
"Overall, we have places where we can shave off strokes and get better. We have the talent to do it."
