The Brookfield track and field team travelled to Putnam County on Friday to participate in the Marcus Hounsom Relays.

The Bulldog boys finished fifth of 11 teams and the girls finished fourth out of 10 on the afternoon.

On the boys' side, Jeremy Williams won the javelin toss by 20 feet with a throw of 166 feet, two inches. Fellow thrower Evan Fay finished third in the discus to earn the team six points.

Brookfield's 4x100 relay team was one of only two other events which the Brookfield boys won. Brandon Collins, Tim Izard, Tanner Wallace, and Khalil Walker notched a time of 47.29 seconds to top Putnam County by more than a second. Wallace won the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet, six inches, and Izard placed third in the 400 meter dash.

On the girls' side, the Bulldogs had very few finishers within the top three. Senior Leslie Dean placed second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:26, and she also finished second in the 3200 meters. The Bulldogs' 4x100 relay team finished first. Kate Ewing, Precious Starlin, Avery Thompson, and Sydney Wilbeck crossed the line at 54.22 seconds to best Putnam County by more than a full second.

By the time of this publication, the Bulldogs will have competed in the Clarence Cannon Conference meet in Monroe City. They will next return to Unionville on Saturday for the district meet at 9:30 a.m.
