The Marceline golf team travelled to Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville on Monday for the Class 1 Sectional 4 tournament. The Tigers shot a 349 collectively, and missed qualifying as a team by six strokes.
"I thought the guys played well enough to make it to state as a team, but we played in a tough sectional," Marceline coach Tim Jordan said. "That's just how it goes."
Gallatin won the tournament with a 328-stroke round, and Mid-Buchanan finished second right ahead of the Tigers. Fourth-place Clopton was 73 strokes behind Marceline, and La Plata and Schuyler County rounded out the sectional as far as full teams are concerned. Individual qualifiers from numerous other schools participated.
The Tigers, coming off of last year's fourth-place finish at the Class 1 level, will be sending three golfers to the state tournament in Springfield on May 14 and 15. Trey Hamilton finished third on Monday behind two Gallatin players. He shot 79 on the par 72 course.
Rylan Chrisman and Colby Sims finished back to back in the standings in 15th and 16th place, respectively, with scores of 87 and 88.
Cullen Bruner shot a 95 and missed the cut, as did Seth Cupp with a 98 stroke round.
"I'm very proud of the season we had as a team," Jordan said. "Now it's all individual from here on out. Maybe we can bring home a few state medals to finish the season strong."
