The Brookfield softball team travelled to Macon on Tuesday night and fell to 1-2 with an 8-3 loss.

The Bulldogs finished with seven hits, including a Fallon Gladbach home run in the second inning, but the damage had already been done. Macon, a sectional qualifier from last year, posted a big, four-run first inning to put a damper on the Bulldogs' evening.

The Bulldogs scored their second run in the fifth inning, and Macon responded with three more in the bottom half.

"The girls competed," Brookfield coach Paige Drescher said. "We had runners on base and girls hitting almost every inning. We had a few crucial errors in the field that led to Macon scoring some extra runs, but the girls are improving every game. We have to celebrate our small successes, and tonight we competed with a good-hitting ball club."

Brookfield plays again Thursday when it faces Highland in Kirksville.
