Marceline's softball program had a mixed bag on the road to begin the week, including winning a tournament in a unique fashion.
In Trenton on Monday, the Tigers were routed, 11-0. Trenton's two-loss team handed the Tigers their third by racking up 14 hits to just two for Marceline. Abbey Kussman and Baylee Jobson were the only Tigers to record a hit in what turned into just a six-inning game.
The following evening, Marceline defeated Knox County, 3-1, in a conference matchup that was considered the championship of Schuyler County's tournament last weekend. Since the tournament was cut short due to weather, and Marceline and Knox were scheduled to play for the championship anyway, Schuyler County officials gave the teams the hardware to take to Edina on Tuesday night to sort it out there.
All three of the Tigers' runs came in the top of the seventh inning on a Savannah Kelly home run, and the Tigers were hitless until the top of the sixth. They finished with just three hits, and Knox County posted four in total. Knox's only run came in the sixth inning on a solo shot.
The Tigers are now 16-3, and travel to Macon on Thursday.
