The Brookfield Bulldogs' volleyball season came to a close on Monday night. The Bulldogs fell in straight sets to Lafayette County in the opening round of district play in Lexington.
Brookfield was trampled in the first set, 25-3, before assembling a respectable second set and falling 25-14.
The Bulldogs finish their season 1-22-2, and Lafayette County advances to the second round with a 14-12-4 record.
Brookfield coach Amy Dixon said that she was pleased with the direction the nascent program is headed following its fifth season.
"Our record this season didn't show the growth and monumental gains this team made," Dixon said. "With a program five years in the making, there are always going to be negatives, but I think there are a lot of positives you have to look at. Our girls served overhand, we had girls jump serving, and we split some games with teams. We went into extra points, had some long rallies, and dug some hard hits.
"The growth that the ladies showed this season sets the bar for next year and the years to come, and I'm proud of these young ladies."
