This week’s District Basketball season has one simple mantra...win or go home. For the Brookfield basketball programs, the road to post-season glory would not be an easy one. The Lady Dogs and the Dogs both received low seeds, and would have to face a pair of tough teams right off the bat at their tournament in Palmyra.
Monday night, the Lady Dogs took on Macon. The game was close at first, with Brookfield trailing 18-11 after one quarter. Quinsie Gall had seven points in the frame. The Macon lead grew to 12 points at the half, 34-22. Gall again led scoring with eight points in the second quarter.
Last night, the Brookfield Bulldogs took on Schuyler County in their first round bout. The Rams scored first at the 6:46 mark, and opened with a 6-0 run. Blake Williams ended that run at the 4:$1 mark, putting the Dogs on the board and a 4-0 run of their own. Ethan Harmon had a steal and hoop to tie the game at 8-8 at the 2:26 mark, and the Dogs took their first lead of the contest at the 1:02 mark. After one quarter was in the books, Brookfield was smelling an upset, up 16-12 and on a 6-0 run. Harmon had eight points in the opening salvos of this battle.
Levi Henderson scored first for the Dogs in the second quarter, extending the run to 8-0 at the 7:01 mark. Schuyler ended the run 20 seconds later, and tied the game back up with a 6-0 run. The Rams took the lead on a three-pointer at the 1:48 mark, and led 33-28 at the half. Williams had four points to lead second quarter scoring for the Dogs.
